There are lots of things I love about having our own studio — having the freedom to spend the time needed on a project to get the right solution, working hard to better us as a business, and thoroughly enjoying what we do every day (good environment = good work).
All of these things come down to one thing — being the (joint) boss and making the decisions. It's good to be the big cheese.
The best thing for me is having flexibility to spend as much time on a project as required, regardless of budget restraints. If we spend too long on something but we have a great outcome, it's been worth it.
A good portfolio will promote itself – so stock up on elbow grease.
Our first year was brilliant for many reasons. I chose to use some of my highlights; moving into our studio, the 'occasional' beer garden meeting, our impeccable music taste, a few identities we created and the birth of my daughter.
We joked last week that we haven't hoovered up since we've been here. It's disgusting, but true. So my representation of one year is made from one year's worth of dust gathered from around the studio. And a camera shy spider.
