I've been taking photos of things I like around Sheffield for a while. I've lived here all my life, and still find interesting bits I've never come across. Everything from old signage, quirky type, ghost signs, street-art, interesting letterboxes and just things that make me smile — a real random mix of images.
Finding these hidden beauties is what inspired us to create Why U Reading This For and even inspired us to create typefaces. We never know where inspiration for a new project will come from, but give me an old industrial estate or derelict warehouse over a fancy design blog any day.

Beautiful old neon sign.

Nice hand lettered sign — particularity like the lowercase 'n'.

Stunner.

Before VR, there was 3D signage.

Funky bar on the 'A'.

I'm a big fan of the old broken neon signs you find, especially around the old industrial areas.

Sheffield's greatest.

Lovely letterforms.

Script type + Mock Tudor = Great signage.

I always wondered who took the O and E.

Drop shadow text is back.

Beautiful letters.

Quirky sign on and old pub near the studio. The bird shit elevates it to another level.

Bold, simple and industrial. Coming to a coffee shop near you soon...

Missing G this time.

Lovely hand lettered gate in Kelham. Plus some shit graffiti.

If in doubt use as many fonts as possible.

The only door I've seen made entirely from black marker and Tipp-Ex.

Don't know who did this, but I like a pun.

S.A.D.A.C.C.A is Sheffield And District African Caribbean Community Association. Look at those crazy A's and Pac-Man inspired C's!

I love DIY signs and messages. The British public love nothing more than ensuring other people NEVER PARK WHERE THEY SHOULDN'T.

This obviously took someone a fair amount of time to do. Who needs a top margin? Not this car park.

Don't ask me why, but I like No Parking signs.

Sometimes words aren't enough...

Nice stencil.

Nice stencil mk2.

NO!

Things look better when they're a bit battered.

Manners go a long way.

Unusual 'N'.

This sign has been on this garage since I was a young'un.

Effects > Gaussian Blur.

Woof woof.

Why can't all signs be hand painted?

More good use of manners.

Finding stuff like this stuck on walls brightens a dull day.

And this.

People wondered why I was taking a photo of this...

DIY health and safety.

You've not owned a car, until you've had a Mondeo with a Gents loo sign stuck to the drivers door.

Wonderful use of language.

Retro sign near our studio. Lovely colours.

Proper way-finding.

Skills? Dresses? Pits? What is it!?

Great name.

Equally great name.

Fancy letterbox 1/5.

Fancy letterbox 2/5.

Fancy letterbox 3/5.

Fancy letterbox 4/5.

Fancy letterbox 5/5.

G Thing.

Something about Star Wars.

Sneaky cat.

The grills have eyes.

Fed up.

He looks like he's just done something sinister.

Nice colours on this street-art.

Some quirky graffiti.
